'Operation Grow My Hair'

Wednesday, 7 August 2013
Do you ever decide to do something and all of a sudden you're completely obsessed with it? Well, that's what's happened to me. I've been trying to grow my hair now for about 6 months and don't feel like I'm getting anywhere.

So recently, I've researched tips online, read product reviews, watched videos and decided to make a big effort to get my hair in good condition to help it grow. I thought I'd share my plans and get some tips from you guys too!

So here's how I plan to grow my hair.

1. Invest in good quality products.
Recently, my hair has been quite dry and my split ends are shameful. My hair is never going to grow in this condition. So I've taken the time to find some good products and although they weren't cheap, I've already noticed a huge difference. I've started using the Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner along with the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer. I'm going to use this pre-shampoo treatment every second wash. I'm going to commit to heat protecting spray ALL THE TIME and always use hair oil on the ends to finish!

2. Cut my hair.
I still struggle with the 'cut it to make it grow longer' concept. I know it's true and I get it, but I do find it slightly soul destroying cutting my hard earned hair. Until recently, I hadn't had a haircut since February and although it was a bit longer, the ends were dry. I got my hair cut last week and the difference is unbelievable. It's shiny again and it looks noticeably healthier. I've now committed to getting my hair cut every 12 weeks. It's in my diary. In Pen!

3. 'Do I really need to straighten it?'
If I blast my hair dry, it's like a big huge frizzy animal on my head and until recently, I would never have considered skipping straighteners. Then I discovered the hair donut and realised that straightening my hair to put it up in a bun was totally pointless. It's a little frizzier I admit, but nothing that a bit of hairspray can't sort. I've committed to avoiding heat as much as possible. If it's mid week and I'm just going to work, I'll let it air dry and put it up for the next few days. Instant heat-free hair-do.

Hair grows about half an inch a month. I really want another 3-4 inches so realistically I'm looking at about 8 months or more. But I know these points are going to help not only the length, but the condition of my hair too.

Have you got any tips for helping grow your hair?
What do you think of these tips?

  1. I have been attempting to grow my hair since January and at the end of March I made the decision to go cold turkey with my straighteners and it has been one of the best things I have done for my hair. It feels softer and has much more volume. I have just added the Phillip Kingsley products to my evergrowing list of haircare products!

    Great tips!! X

  4. Great tips :) I recommend using Argan oil! It works wonders!

Also DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR CUT. I cannot stress this enough. I do understand the idea behind it, but it just doesn't work! Your hair DOES feel soft and shiny but it's short again.

Me and my sister had a hair growing thing going on and I got mine cut every 3 months, she left hers for a year. By the end of it my hair was down to my boobs but her hair was literally nearly down to her bum xD a good 3 inches longer than mine. So I don't believe it anymore haha about getting your hair cut :)

    1. I quite like using oil, it's definitely making a difference! Yeah I know what you mean, my sister did the same thing, didnt cut it for ages and hers got really long. However, it was long with loads of split ends and eventually she had to get it to get rid of the dead ends and ended up at the same stage as me again. I'm willing to take a little bit extra time if it means having it in good condition :) xx

  5. I'm literally in the same situation! My hair just doesn't want to grow, which probably has a lot to do with heat damage and the random phase of dying earlier this year :(
    Good luck!
