What I Got For Christmas 2014.

Tuesday, 30 December 2014
Hello lovelies! So I think this is my last post of 2014 - how exciting! I've been reading a lot of 'What I Got for Christmas' posts recently - I love a good shopping haul at the best of times but I love how Christmas presents always have a little personal touch or are maybe a bit different to what that person would normally chose for themselves. Today I thought I'd show you some of the things I got for Christmas. Obviously, it goes without saying that Christmas isn't all about the presents - but today's post is, so if you're easily offended and don't like posts like this then don't read on. For everyone else, here come the pics!

Looking back on 2014.

Monday, 29 December 2014
Well hello! Hope you all had a good Christmas and enjoyed some time off work or uni if you were lucky enough to get it. I spent the day with my family, eating far too much food and playing old school sonic the hedgehog with my sister and nephew. I've definitely lost my skills from back in the day but practise will make perfect!

So since Christmas has been and gone, and new year is on it's way, I thought I'd do a little post looking back on my favourite memories of the year. Looking through old photos has reminded me of so many fun days and this has been the best year ever. Here's some of my favourite photos of the year ...

Rose Gold Jewellery
Jenny Packham Rose Gold
Rose Gold Necklace Long Chain

Hello lovelies! Hope you've all had a good weekend. Isn't Monday so much easier when there's just a few days until Christmas? I'm wearing my Christmas jumper to work today which sets me off to a pretty good start I'd say. Roll on 5pm on Tuesday when I finish work for a whole week. I plan to play 'Driving home for Christmas' with a massive smile on my face on the way home.

Today's post is just a quick one to show you this lovely rose gold jewellery from No.1 Jenny Packham at Debenhams. They sent this over last week for me to share as a gift suggestion for anyone who's still got some shopping to do. The necklace and earrings come separately but feature the same scattered diamond design on a rose gold backing. Rose gold is always a good choice if you're not sure if someone is a gold or silver wearer, because it can be worn with both. They're reasonably priced too at £15 for the earrings and £22 for the necklace.

What do you think of these? Have you got any last minutes gifts still to get?

Christmas Day Outfit Ideas

Friday, 19 December 2014
Hello lovelies! So recently I've started thinking about what I'm going to wear on Christmas day. I know some people like to be as comfy as possible and others get really dressed up .. I suppose it just depends where you're going. I spend the day between mine and Andy's mums houses so I go in between the two. I like to feel like I'm making an effort but obviously the outfit must be able to accommodate the festive food baby after dinner.

Today I thought I'd show you a couple of outfit ideas I've come up with ...

Smart Casual Outfit for Christmas
red velvet dress : river island | over the knee boots: dune
tights: new look | watch: asos | cream teddy coat: topshop

1. A comfy dress with tights is the best way to do smart/casual in my opinion. This red velvet dress is so christmassy, especially with the cosy teddy coat over it. You might recognise these boots from a wishlist a while ago - they were half price then and I missed out, so I'm determined to get them in the boxing day sales.

Leather Pencil Skirt Outfit
cream polo top: topshop | pearl earrings: ASOS | leather pencil skirt: topshop

2. This outfit is a bit dressier and would be good if your family goes out for your Christmas dinner, or even as something to wear if you head out at night time. I'm not usually a huge leopard print fan but there's something about these shoes that made me fall in love - these are on sale just now too. The cream polo tucked into the skirt brings it from super dressy to smart/casual and the fur clutch is the perfect match for these accessories, I think. Since the colours are all neutral, I'd pick a nice dark red lipstick to add some colour.

Do you like these outfits? Do you get dressed up for Christmas day?

Hello lovelies. Hope you're all well and enjoying the final Christmas countdown - today is Christmas eve eve eve eve eve eve eve eve eve, in case you were wondering. I'm so excited for Christmas but equally, I don't want it to be over so I'm just kind of revelling in all the festivities at the moment and enjoying the merriness.

I was heading into town for some shopping last weekend and managed to squeeze in some quick outfit pictures before the heavens opened. Who needs a weather forecast when you have my huge humidity hair like mine to tell you it's going to rain? I should have known. Since it's been pretty cold recently, I went for maximum warmth in my alpaca jumper and heavy wool coat. I actually picked up this coat last year and it's worked it's way back into my regular wardrobe again. I like that it's quite basic but it somehow still adds something to a plain outfit.

Of course, I chose my favourite red lace-up shoes to add some colour - these are definite candidates for the best shoes of 2014 (and possibly, of all time). I might actually do a post on my fashion favourites of the year, if I can possibly pick one thing for each. In fact, it'll probably take me until next year to decide.

Have you got any favourite items of the year? What have you worn the most?

Hello and happy Sunday! I hope you're all enjoying the build-up to Christmas and all the festivities just now - I'm totally in my element. These pics were taken at George Square in Glasgow which is so nice at the moment. We're going back today for a proper look around and then heading down to the Christmas market after. I can almost guarantee there will be a Costa black forest hot chocolate involved at some point too. Best kind of day!

I ordered this white present jumper during the week and I'm so in love with it.The product reviews on Very are so helpful - ASOS, please take note. They said this was very small made and to size up by two whole sizes. I was a bit nervous about doing it but the reviews were right and at two sizes up, it's a perfect fit. It's actually sold out on Very now but I found it on Littlewoods too, although oddly it's going for £7 more than I paid for mine. I'd say this is low on the scale of Christmas Jumpers out at the moment - just a nice subtle Christmas theme.

I was planning to wear this outfit on Christmas day but I've fallen out with this skirt a little recently. It's so frustrating that I only need to sit in the car for five minutes for it to become super creased for the rest of the day. Annoying, but creases aside, I do really like this outfit altogether.

Have any of you got Christmas jumpers?

To make up my lack of posts, I filmed a fashion haul today for my YouTube channel showing you what clothes and accessories I've been buying over the last month. I hope you enjoy watching the video .. if you do, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel

Gift Guide: Stocking Fillers Under £15 (for her)

Tuesday, 2 December 2014
Secret Santa for her
Chocolate Brownie Mix in a Jar | Caudalie Hand Cream Trio | Kitten Ankle Socks | Strawberry Beauty Bag |
Mint Green 2015 Diary | Mug Cakes Book | Mini Beauty Elixir Spray| This Works Dream Team Gift Set

So since it's December and I've been making a list of ideas for ages anyway, I thought I'd put together a little gift guide. These ideas are all under £15 so would be perfect for a small gift to a friend, secret santa or even a stocking filler for your lovely girlfriend. Andy, I hope you're reading this and picking up on the not-so-subtle hints.

I'm a total sucker for a novelty gift and I love the cake mix in a jar - it's presented so well and who doesn't want a quick step to freshly made brownies straight out the oven? Or, for an even more impatient friend, you could get 'Mug Cakes' - a full recipe book on cakes that can be made in a mug, in the microwave, in under five minutes.

Some beauty favourites are the Caudalie Mini Beauty Elixir spray - this is an amazing product and you get a lot for your money with this gift too. Another good mini is This Works Dream Team which includes the famous pillow spray and stress less roller - these are usually quite expensive, but you can get both miniatures for £10 in this set. This Body Shop set is another good bargain and pretty fool-proof in terms of gifts, since it's almost impossible not to love it. For someone that's not into beauty, a diary planner is always a good idea - I love this one from Paper Chase. They have a massive selection of designs too! And of course, a stocking filler guide isn't complete without a pair of socks. A kitten in a hat and scarf, could that be any cuter.

Hope you like this gift guide ... do you have any good ideas for stocking fillers?

Well hello - hope you've all had a good weekend. Can you believe it's DECEMBER tomorrow!? I'm loving the countdown! This weekend, Andy and I thought we'd start off our Christmas shopping with a trip through to Edinburgh. It's only an hour from Glasgow but we decided to book a hotel for the night so we could take our time, get dinner and drinks and make a weekend of it. We stayed at Edinburgh Capital Hotel, which was okay but a bit further out from the centre than we expected.

For shopping during the day, I wore my new burgundy wool skirt from Topshop. I'm loving wearing skirts with jumpers at the moment - I'm finally moving away from black skinny jeans! I have my eye on a few others now - including this leopard print one which I'm obsessed with, how typical that it's sold out! I threw my black wool Topshop coat from last year over the top to keep me warm and my huge check scarf, which came in handy for wrapping round my shoulders at dinner. After shopping, we went to Cafe Andaluz for tapas, and it was amazing as usual. I just can't fault that place. That chocolate and ginger cake .. wow.

Edinburgh looked so pretty at night with all the amusements and the pink sky behind the castle!

Have any of you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Eyelashes, Gel Nails and A New Beauty Salon

Friday, 28 November 2014

Hello and happy Friday! So this week I was invited along to a brand new beauty salon - Eden Beauty Garden in Bothwell Street, Glasgow. The salon's owned by two lovely Estonian sisters, Merili and Kristy and they very kindly offered to let me try their eyelash and nail extensions for free. And what did I say? Uh, yes please!

The salon is super handy, right next to Central Station in Glasgow, and set in a lovely office space overlooking the busy streets. Inside, it's really bright and airy, with an open plan layout. The beauty bed is parted by a divider, but is still within the main room which also has the nail bar and couches. Personally, I can find the whole salon experience quite awkward when it's just me and the beautician in a small, quiet room. But in Eden Beauty Garden, it's much more casual and relaxed with the radio playing and background noise to drown out my predictably noisy stomach (something I'd be cursing if I was in the quiet room!).

And even better - the girls offer tea, coffee or even a glass of wine if you fancy.

Biosoft Gel Nails Salon

I must admit I was quite nervous about getting eyelashes - they have potential to be so bad if they're not done correctly. I've fallen for cheap offers in the past and found myself on a conveyor belt of groupon customers having eyelashes applied as quickly as possible.. but I felt confident after speaking to Merili beforehand. She sounded like a total perfectionist and made a point of saying they'd probably take longer than I'd had before, because she takes time to apply each individual lash to prevent them sticking together. Music to my ears!

I asked for shorter lashes, because I prefer volume to length and can't pull of super long lashes anyway. Merili applied 8 and 9mm lashes with a 'C-curl' that gives them a mascara-like finish. It took around 2 hours from start to finish, and I couldn't have been happier with the results. Of all the salons I've tried, this is honestly the happiest I've been with false lashes. They're natural, but noticeable and don't even need mascara. The lashes can last up to 8 weeks with infills every 3 weeks. To be honest, I'm probably going to drag that out to 4 weeks and make my infills a monthly visit. Watch this space for an update in the next few weeks - but so far, so great!

Next, I sat with Kristy for my nails. Long nails aren't my thing, so we decided on Biosoft nails to add some chip-proof colour without any extra length. These were a bit like shellac, where the gel is added, then colour, then more gel and placed under the UV light. Being super predictable at Christmas, I went for 'Tropic Red' which is a beautiful, orange toned red shade. The nails are finished perfectly and should last up to 4 weeks.

I'm so impressed with this new salon and highly recommend you check them out. You can find their website here, their price list here and list of treatments here. Hope you liked this post - have a lovely weekend! :)

AND FINALLY - The salon have been kind enough to offer a 20% discount all of you!
Just mention 'Maisy Meow' when booking your appointment.

Do you like how these eyelashes and nails turned out?

Home-made Black Forest Hot Chocolate.

Black Forest Hot Chocolate Recipe

One of the biggest things making me excited for Winter this year was the return of Costa's Black Forest Hot Chocolate. I was totally obsessed with this drink last year - I love hot chocolate anyway, but this takes it to a whole new level .. it's like drinking black forest gateaux.

I decided I wanted to try making my own at home and started looking for recipes on line. It turns out that Costa use a black berry syrup in their hot chocolate, with a cherry sauce on top. I couldn't find black berry syrup anywhere but what I did find, was Monin Cherry Syrup and lots of Amazon reviews that said it was perfect for DIY Black Forest Hot Chocolate. Turns out I'm not the only one whose obsessed - I might start a fan group.

It's taken a few tries, but I've finally got the technique right and wanted to share the recipe with you all. This makes a lovely cherry flavoured hot chocolate that tastes similar, but isn't an exact dupe of the Costa version.

Here's what you'll need:

Monin Cherry Syrup (available here at Amazon)
Drinking Chocolate Powder ( I use Bourneville Cocoa )
Milk ( I used semi-skimmed milk )
Squirty Cream
Adorable Santa and Polar Bear mugs (optional)

Black Forest Hot Chocolate Recipe
Black Forest Hot Chocolate Recipe

First, put 1.5 teaspoons of cocoa powder into a small amount of milk -about a fifth of the mug. Stir this as much as possible and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. Next, add 3 tablespoons of cherry syrup - it sounds a lot, but it's necessary if you want the flavour to come through. The aim is to create a thick concentrated liquid of cocoa, milk and syrup at the bottom of the mug. This is to stop the syrup from separating from the milk, which will happen if you skip this step!

Once you've mixed in the stirred the syrup in well, pop your mug into the microwave for another 30 seconds. Take it out, stir it really well and add another bit of milk to take it to the half way point - then put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds. Add the rest of the milk and heat it up for another minute, or longer if you like it really hot. As long as the milk is added gradually to the mixture, it'll mix perfectly. Finish off with lots of squirty cream, a sprinkle of cocoa powder and some cherry syrup over the top - and voilà!

Have any of you tried Black Forest Hot Chocolate? Have you ever made your own?
