How To #1: Give Yourself an Eyebrow Makeover

Wednesday, 5 February 2014
We've probably all had an episode of over-plucking at some point in our lives. I know I have. It's been a while since thin, pencil eyebrows were in but some people still haven't recovered from the eyebrow massacre of the past. I've finally managed to re-shape my eyebrows over the last year and although I'm no Cara Delevigne, I thought I'd tell you some of the useful tips I found....

*********

1. Ditch the Tweezers - You'd be surprised at how much you change your eyebrow shape by plucking a few odd hairs here and there. The best way to find your natural brow shape is to go right back to the blank canvas. What's a few weeks of bushy brows in your whole life? It never looks nice to have one or two hairs astray - but if you leave it, it becomes two or three, then four or five and eventually ... you have a whole lot of eyebrow shape to work with. Mine grew back fully within a month or so, but if you find your own are taking ages, try applying castor oil to them at night, it's supposed to speed up hair growth and make them thicker too.

2. Find the Shape - When you've finally got your blank, hairy canvas, it's time for the all important shaping. Now I know this is a 'How to' guide, and I'm about to tell you how to let someone else do it, but I think it's SO important to get them shaped professionally. I don't get my eyebrows waxed all the time because it's too expensive, but when it comes to shaping, it's a vital step! A beautician knows how to find the right, natural shape for your face. Pick your beautician carefully, make sure you both agree on the same look. If she's sporting a dodgy, overdone scouse brow, avoid. Or there's a good chance you'll end up matching!

3. Maintaining: Pencil before you pluck! - I've always done my eyebrows after a hot shower, when my pores are open, which makes plucking a lot less painful. The problem is, this is when my face is make up free. Most people use eyebrow pencil or shadow to shape their brows as part of their normal make up routine, and it's only when this is done that you can see your exact shape. I highly recommend pencilling/filling in your eyebrows before plucking. This means you'll find the stray, unwanted hairs a lot easier, and it stops you from over plucking what you want to keep - which, annoyingly, is so easy to do!

Do you have any tips for reshaping?

  1. This is really helpful. I literally just pluck away and hope for the best haha. It's so true about how plucking just one hair can change your brow immediately! I really need to just pluck up the courage (excuse the pun ha) and grow mine out to be reshaped professionally! xxx

    1. Thanks Sarah! I was the same for ages and couldn't understand why they were such a bad shape. You should! I promise it's so worth the hairy brow phase lol x

  2. I'm in the re growing and re shaping process! Not loving the hairy bush above my eyes right now but it will be worth it! Silly me getting over excited with the tweezers in my teenage years haha! Xx

  3. I swear by threading - the threadist says the same as you - leave them to grow to get the natural shape, instead of plucking away, then get threaded. Apparently vaseline is quite good for growth too!

    1. I really like threading too, but mine grow back quite quickly so I always have to do them myself every week or so! Yeah I heard Vaseline is good too!x

  4. I definitely agree with this. Re-growing them means you can start afresh and get the best shape for your face. I find that eyebrows are the most important part to a face haha!

  7. I totally agree, but man I still hate the waiting part of re-growing them out haha
That part about "matching her" is totally true. One lady jacked up my eyebrows and one had a higher arch than the other. Such a pain to grow back out.
