New YouTube Video: Primark Haul

Wednesday, 30 July 2014
It's been a long time since I went on a serious Primark shopping spree. I just can't trust myself in that place, and since I've been trying to cut back on the shopping, my only option was to avoid it at all costs. But recently I've been lacking on basic things like t-shirts, cami tops, pyjamas .. so I was left with absolutely no choice but to return. Last week was pay day, so on Saturday I set off with every intention of buying lots of things I don't need (story of my life). Primark is almost guilt-free shopping - you get so much for your money, and it's such a good feeling when you walk out with those big brown paper bags (unless it's raining, then it's pretty worrying).

So since my shopping spree was a total success, I thought I'd show you what I picked up in a new video. I hope you enjoy it - hit subscribe if you want to see more videos in future :)

NSpa Creamy Coconut Collection Giveaway.

Tuesday, 29 July 2014
Hello lovelies! So I'd be very surprised if you haven't heard me mention N-Spa Creamy Coconut products at some point over the last few months. I am absolutely obsessed with them this year. Like a lot of people, I want everything and anything coconut-scented during the Summer months

Earlier this year, I was going away for the weekend at the last minute and stopped past Asda to get some bath products. I only have a shower in my flat, so a night in a hotel means I must have a bath and it must be a good one. I saw this coconut range in Asda and threw them in my basket, thinking they'd be acceptable if they were at least a little bit coconut-y. I was pleasantly surprised (understatement) when it turned out to be the best smell ever. It's so different to the coconut scent from the Body Shop - much creamier and a bit like snowball cakes, which are my favourite! The scent from the body butter alone stays on the skin for hours too. In the range, there's also a shower scrub which has a really fine exfoliator, a body mist (perfect for holiday!) and a coconut bath fizzer too. N-Spa is my new favourite brand of the moment - some of the other scents in the range are gorgeous too, try them out if you're in Asda and you won't be disappointed!

NSPA creamy coconut range

Body Butter | Fragrance Mist | Bath Fizzer | Shower Scrub

Since I love to spread the word when I find an excellent, inexpensive product/brand, I thought I'd do a little giveaway! I've picked up the body butter, shower scrub, bath fizzer and body mist and I'm so excited for one of you to win all of these - I know you'll love them!

So here's the rules!

1. This giveaway is open to UK residents only.
2. Entries from 'giveaway accounts'* will not be counted - so please don't enter.
3. This giveaway will end at midnight on the 28th August. Winner will be contacted by email within 24 hours of the giveaway ending, if I don't hear back from you within 30 days, I will chose another winner.

And here's where you enter - good luck!

Giveaway now closed - winner will be announced soon!

Have any of you tried this range before?

*just to clarify - I had an issue on a previous giveaway where I had lots of entries from fake accounts on twitter. This was blatantly obvious because I'd get a batch of 20 entries within seconds of each other, all accounts would have like 1 follower and the same picture, all tweets were for giveaways and it was clear this was one person trying to have an unfair advantage over other people. I don't think this is fair and don't want lots of fake accounts following me either, which is why I've asked them not to enter :) x

FOTD: Every-Day Summer Make-Up

Friday, 25 July 2014

Hello! It's been a while since I've done a 'Face of the Day' post so today I thought I'd show you the make-up look I've been wearing almost every day at the moment. I've been loving Maybelline Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows recently. I have the shade 'On and On Bronze' and it makes the perfect base for my favourite shimmer eyeshadows. The one I've been using the most is Mac 'All That Glitters' - I only suit this one if I've got a bit of a tan, so I'm definitely making the most of it during Summer. In the pictures above, I've used Urban Decay 'Buck' and 'Naked' as a crease colour, which is the only colour I really use in that area. It gives a really natural shadow and, since my eye make-up is almost always neutral, it goes with every colour I wear. Oh and my lip colour is Bourjois Colour Punch in 'Orange Punch' - I forgot to include that in the pictures below because it just get's thrown in my bag before I go. It's my absolute favourite colour at the moment.

And here's all the other products I used:

L'Oreal True Match Foundation in shade 'Golden Tan'
Mac Studio Sculpt Concealer Pot in shade 'NC30'
Michael Kors Bronze Powder in 'Beam'* (as highlighter)
Benefit Hoola Bronzer (for contouring)
Nars Blusher in shade 'Orgasm'

Maybelline Color Tattoo eye shadow in 'On and On Bronze'
MAC eye shadow in 'All That Glitters'
Urban Decay Naked Palette colours'Buck' and 'Naked'(in crease)
Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in 'Brown/black'

Bourjois Colour Boost in 'Orange Punch'

What's your every day make-up products at the moment?

New YouTube Video: My Make Up and Beauty Storage.

Wednesday, 23 July 2014
Hello! Hope you're all having a good week. How nice is the weather?! I'm just about to head out for dinner at my friends and hopefully a few wee drinks in the garden - well it would be rude not to! First, I thought I'd share my new YouTube video on today's post.

I asked on Twitter for some ideas on what video to make next and this one seemed to be the most popular, so this new video is all about how I store my make up and beauty products. I'm not going to lie, I love watching these videos on YouTube and it was actually through watching them that I ended up choosing the Malm furniture for my room. I really love it and I've finally managed to find a place for everything. So I hope you like watching this video - let me know if you have any other suggestions for my next one!

Now it's time for some sunshine :)

The Toast of the Town.

Tuesday, 22 July 2014
I was so excited when I was invited to the 'Toast of the Town' bloggers photography workshop on Saturday. The event was held at the Millennium hotel in Glasgow City Centre - it was my first time inside and it's such a lovely building! I've been interested in photography for a while and after my plan to join an evening course fell through, I was really glad to not only get the chance to learn, but to learn in a room full of bloggers with similar photography needs! When you end up in a serious conversation about how to take pictures of a lipstick, you know you're in the right place.

The class was taken by Stuart and Hamish from Dreghorn Photography. I can't even begin to explain just how useful the class was. I learned so much about my Canon 600d camera, and although the class was only for one day, we covered so much. The most fascinating thing was learning about different shutter speeds. Stuart used a toy helicopter to demonstrate the difference between the different settings, and it was so interesting to see how one creates a blur around the blades and the other shows the blades frozen and sharp, even though they were spinning ridiculously fast. It's totally encouraged me to sign up for more classes and since I really liked his method of teaching, I'm going to try and get to some of Stuart's courses in the next few months.

After the class and an amazing lunch provided by the hotel (I had vegetarian haggis - so good), we headed outside to try out our new skills. So here's some of the pictures I took. Okay so I'm not a total pro (yet!) but I love feeling brave enough to pick different settings - practise makes perfect!

How cute is the wee boy with the bagpipes? I could hear it all the way down the street and couldn't believe it when I realised how young he was. His sign said 'Saving for a Kilt' - bless! Although the lightings not great in it, I love the photo with the bird in the sky - this is with a faster shutter, which is quick enough to capture the wings spread right out!

You can find the Millenium's blog post about the event here too!

Are any of you interested in photography?

Hello! Hope you've all had a good weekend! I've decided to switch my schedule up and do outfit posts on a Monday now. It means I can take my pictures over the weekend and hopefully I'll have some lifestyle-y stuff to include from the weekend as well. I've been managing two outfit posts a week recently and I hope I can keep that up. I spent the whole day blogging yesterday so I'm all up to date - it's such a good feeling to be organised!

I found this gorgeous printed dress in H&M the other day and thought it would be the perfect summer day dress. For some reason, this print isn't on the site but I've linked the actual dress above as it comes in other prints too. I just love the fit of this and the print is so simple and pretty. I've been loving wearing summer dresses lately - they make it look like I've made a bit more of an effort when reality is the total opposite! This one will be perfect for daytime on holiday too.

After taking pictures and writing posts all day yesterday, I had serious cabin fever so this is what I wore for a wee trip in to Princes Square in Glasgow for dinner. It was a really nice, warm night and Glasgow was really busy. The good weather makes such a difference to a place, I felt like I was on holiday and wanted to sit outside with a wee cocktail. I just love Summer!

Do you like this dress? How would you style it?

p.s there's a giveaway coming at the end of this week! :)

I've been having one of those 'I've nothing to wear' days for like a week, so since I was going to the Murad skin care launch in Glasgow last night, I thought it was a good excuse for wee visit to the shops for a little purchase. I knew I wanted to wear this black midi skirt, because I just love wearing midi's at the moment, so I was on the look for a top to go with it. I spotted this sheer 'A La Folie' top and my eyes lit up ... who doesn't love a palm print? I can think of so many ways to wear this, it'll be a favourite over the next few weeks and it's definitely coming to Lanzarote with me.

I may or may not have extended my 'little purchase' to include these chunky sandals from New Look. I've wanted a pair like this for a while, and when I tried these on, it felt like they were giving my feet a little hug and I couldn't say no. I was not disappointed as these sandals are super comfy and fit like a dream. I love the footwear in New Look at the moment, the prices are unreal for the styles they're coming out with. It's fast becoming my favourite place for shoes!

I've been really busy this week so once my Saturday shift is over, I'm really looking forward to getting in my pj's ridiculously early and curling into a wee ball for the night. I just feel so totally exhausted this week. The fact I'm writing this at quarter to midnight might have something to do with it, so on that note - I'm off to bed! Good night/good morning by the time you read this!

Do you like this outfit? Have you got any new favourite shops these days?

My Favourite Summer Oranges.

Tuesday, 15 July 2014
Coral Nail Polish
When it's a bright and sunny morning, I always gravitate towards the oranges in my make-up drawer. Whether it's nails, lips or cheeks - it's just the perfect shade and I get totally obsessed in it during the summer. So today I'm going to show you some of my favourite summer oranges.

Topshop Lipstick Infrared
Lips: Nothing looks better with a tan than orange lips. Fact. On the left, is Topshop's 'Infrared' lipstick - a bold, bright orange that's perfect for night time. In the middle is an old favourite, Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in 'Tutti Frutti' - this one gives a really subtle orange tint to the lips without being too obvious. On the right is a new favourite, Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in 'Orange Punch'. This the mid-way between a lipstick and a balm - it leaves a good colour with a super moisturising finish. It's so easy to apply and the perfect product to carry around in your bag.

Maisy Meow Beauty Blogger
Cheeks: I put coral under the 'oranges' umbrella when it comes to make up. I always go for a coral blusher with orange lips because the two shades work together perfectly. My favourite coral blusher is 'Orgasm' by Nars. It has the most beautiful gold shimmer through it which creates a lovely fresh-faced look and totally brightens up my complexion.

Rimmel Rita Ora Nail polishes
Nails: These two are both colours that you could wear all week and they'd go with everything. On the left is Maxfactor Glossfinity in shade 07 'Cute Coral' - I've worn this to death since I got it, hence the worn down bottle! On the right is another favourite, Rimmel's shade 'Oragasm' from the Rita Ora collection. Besides the gorgeous orange red shade, I love how quickly this dries. This is the perfect colour for toes in the summer too!

Ironically, we took these not-so-great pictures on the way to a photography workshop. I didn't have much time, so we didn't get many good ones but I thought I'd put a few up anyway so you can still see the outfit. So yesterday was the 'Toast of the Town' photography workshop in the Millennium Hotel, Glasgow. The event was organised for bloggers as part of the Common Wealth games and we were taken through an amazing photography course held by Dreghorn photography. I learned SO much about how to make the most of my SLR and it's really made me want to learn more, so I'm thinking about going to some more of their photography courses in the future.

I've been quite good at avoiding shopping this month, so I keep digging into my wardrobe to find things I've not worn in a while. I rediscovered this white midi that I got a few months ago from Primark. I love wearing white on the lower half these days, especially with stripes on top - that seems to be my default outfit these days!

I've had such a busy week this week so I'm going to spend today catching up with blog stuff and planning for the next week. Pretty sure I'm going to stay in my jammies all day today! I'm also going to do another YouTube video in the next week or so too - let me know if you have any suggestions on what you'd like to see?

I've been trying to cut back on the shopping recently so that me and Andy can start saving for our first house together. For a serial spender like me, this has proven difficult. So on Saturday, we were all heading out for drinks in the West End for my friend Claire's birthday. Normally, I'd have planned an essential outfit shopping session beforehand, but this time I decided to shop my own wardrobe instead. Well done, responsible Eilidh. I buy a lot of casual clothes and usually wear flats, so I did struggle at first to find something that would be a bit dressier for night time. I ended up coming up with this outfit above and was actually really happy with it in the end. My white skort came in handy because it's quite easy to dress up. I wore these shoes from Faith, which I got a while ago (as part of this post) and I threw this floral kimono over the top so I didn't feel too exposed. I think the pink and black colours all tie in really nicely with this combo.

We had a really good time and I somehow managed a completely cringe-free night and a hangover-free morning! Maybe this new responsible thing is actually happening...

My First Video! 'Summer Sales and Birthday Haul'.

Wednesday, 9 July 2014
Hello! So after months of thinking about it, I've finally made a YouTube video. Probably the only thing I dislike about blogging is how difficult it is to do a haul. I can never get a good picture of new clothes (without wearing what I've bought - which may as well be an outfit post!) and I've usually got way too much to say to fit it all into a post of an acceptable size. Shopping hauls just work so much better when I have the freedom to ramble at my leisure.

I am obsessed with fashion and beauty on YouTube and my favourite video's have always been hauls and look books. So for my very first video, I decided to film a haul showing what I've acquired in the past month - through a mixture of normal shopping, sales and some things I got for my birthday too. I'm not going to lie, editing this was a total killer. I've a whole new respect for YouTubers that upload regularly! I haven't quite decided if this will be a regular thing - but if I do another, I'd really like to do a look book.

So here's the video - I hope you like it! And click HERE to subscribe :) xxx

p.s let me know if you think I should do another, and any suggestions too! xx

First Impressions - Benefit 'They're Real' Push Up Liner.

Tuesday, 8 July 2014
You've probably saw lots of posts on this product recently, and so have I, but I'm yet to find one that I totally agree with. And that might be because I haven't quite made my mind up on this eye liner yet. I wanted to get my first impressions out there, for those of you that may be thinking about buying it amongst all the hype. So before we start, I'll explain my eye liner troubles.

I've tried liquid, gel and felt tip liners and find that the latter works best for me. The stiff felt tip helps with my shaky hands and I find I can get the best shape. I also like that they tend to be easy to wipe off and start again if I make a mistake (which happens regularly). This brings me to the next issue - staying power. Felt tips don't tend to last and the colour isn't as bold as I'd like. I know that gel liners are supposed to perform the best in terms of colour and staying power, so I had extremely high hopes for this stiff-tipped gel liner pen when it was launched - on paper, it's everything I'm looking for. Now this is a long review, so brace yourself. I've lots to say..

'They're Real' push-up liner uses a pen-type application but with a gel liner. The tip of the liner is rubber with a slanted edge, and you click the bottom of the pen which produces a small amount of gel at the top. You have to wipe a small amount of the product onto your hand on first application, otherwise it would be too heavy. This is quite annoying, because it feels like you're wasting some of the product. The product's advertised as being 'criminally easy' to apply, but in all honestly, I didn't find it any easier than others. I actually found the formula to be the biggest problem. It dried really, really quickly so any mistake was basically irreversible. The formula is waterproof, and Benefit offer the 'They're Real' remover as the solution to remove it at the end of the day. This really is an 'end of the day' product and not a quick-fix eraser. The white cream turns black as it's mixed with the liner and it can get pretty damn messy. I'd say I've made a mess 4 mornings out of 10, and had to totally re-do my eye area - which is quite frustrating to say the least. BUT, when I did get the shape right, I was impressed. The colour was really black and as I'd found out the hard way before, it didn't budge all day. I suppose you can't win sometimes, if it's long-lasting, you're not going to be able to wipe it off when you make a mistake. Maybe there isn't a perfect eye liner ... ?

I know this sounds like it's a negative review so far, but now I want to show you how I've learned how to use this. As I said, the thing I struggle with, is the shape. So I started using my normal, somewhat faded felt-tip liner to draw the shape first. This means I can wipe it off and start again if I make a mess and know that the rest of my face is still in tact. Once I've got my outline, I bring out the Benefit eye liner. Then I simply go over my lines with the gel pen and voilĂ , super-black long-lasting flicks - finally! Here's an example with a super-subtle look...

*(admittedly still not perfect..)

Now I've got into the swing of using this, I do like the effect it creates. Mostly the super black colour. Whether or not I think it's worthwhile using two liners is yet to be decided. Maybe this is the only solution to get the best of both worlds? I think eye liner is such an individual thing, and we all prefer different things depending on our own liner abilities.

So this is a bit of a weird review because I don't really have a final conclusion to it. I would say that it's probably not going to solve your eye liner problems if you struggle with shape like me. If you're good at it already but just need the right formula, then you've already ticked the box that I'm missing and this may be a wonder product for you!

I'm interested in all the different opinions on this, so please let me know what you think if you've tried it? Also, do you have any eye liner tips? What's your favourite eye liner?

Garnier Olia Hair Dye Review.

Natural Black Hair Dye

Natural Black Hair Dye
Garnier Olia Hair dye, £6.99 at Boots

Sometimes I get caught up with all the new make up and beauty products flying around, and forget to rave about my old favourites. I was dyeing my hair the other day and realised I've never even mentioned this product on here before, despite using it at least once a month for the past 2/3 years. So today, Garnier Olia is going to have it's moment.

My natural hair colour is black. I love my natural colour and if I could, I'd avoid dyeing it at all costs but unfortunately, black hair usually comes with the curse of early greys. Actually, I think I was about 13 when I got my first grey hair - how bad is that?! They're now at the point where I need to dye my hair every 3/4 weeks or I'm at risk of people offering me their seat on the bus.

In 10 years of dying my hair, I've tried almost every brand out there and Garnier Olia is by far the best. It comes with the normal squeezy bottle with applicator is super easy to mix up. My hair's really thick so I need a lot of hair dye. With most other brands I need two boxes to cover my whole head, but I actually have some left over with Olia. It takes me about 15 minutes to cover my whole head, then I leave the dye in for 40 minutes. I use my own conditioner afterwards, because the one that comes with this smells too strong for me. I've tried a few other brands that develop quicker, but they just don't match up with how my hair feels after using this one. All the oils in this formula makes my hair feel really soft and shiny afterwards, which is really unusual for a box dye in my experience. Olia gives me an even colour all over and covers all the greys perfectly.

When I first dyed my hair, I made the rookie mistake of picking up the obvious 'natural black' colour, thinking it would be just that. FYI any kind of 'black' hair dye will usually be blue/black. My hair dresser told me to always pick a shade down, so I always go for a number 4 which is 'dark brown' and this gives the natural black shade I need to match my hair. This dye costs £7 in Boots, which is about average, but actually saves me money because I only need to use one box. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this dye if you're thinking of doing your own hair at home.

Do you dye your own hair? What brand/product do you use?

White Shirt: H&M | Ripped Skinny jeans*edit: Topshop | Sandals: Primark
Bag: Zara (recent sale) | Sunglasses: Rayban | Nails: L'Oreal Topcoat (see this post)

Hello! So if you haven't seem them on my instagram already, these are my new ripped jeans. I've been looking for a pair with a bit more rips than my others (which are only ripped at the knees) but most of the ones I've seen are boyfriend, loose fit style that just doesn't suit me at all. This pair were just what I was looking for, although as you can see in this picture, they get baggy at the knees after a few hours. An annoying but common skinny jean problem! Jamie jeans are still my favourites from Topshop - they have the nicest fit on me and hold their shape really well. This pair haven't got a name, but I'd say they're the material of the Leigh jeans with the fit of the Jamie's.

We were in a bit of a rush taking these pictures, and I stupidly forgot to take include a close-up of my sandals. In case you're wondering, it's the Primark ones from this post a while ago - somehow it's taken me until now to wear them. I just love the colours in these and I think they go really well with the yellow bag, too.

I'm writing this in advance because I have my friends birthday night out on Saturday and I'm assuming I'll be in need of a lie-in on Sunday. So as you read this, I'm probably not feeling so great. Hopefully you're all in a better way and get to enjoy a lazy Sunday! :)

Where are your favourite skinny jeans from? Have you found the perfect pair yet?

*edit (tues 8th) - just wanted to give you an update. After washing these jeans for the first time after this, they became unbelievably baggy and totally unwearable. So disappointing, but the lovely staff in Topshop were really understanding and  I was able to return them for a refund. The search for the perfect ripped skinny jeans continues ...
