Make-up Tips For Hooded Eyes.

Tuesday, 30 September 2014
Well hello there. So recently, since the season's changing, I've been wearing dark lips and keeping my eye make-up quite simple. Even with simple eye make-up, using the right shades in the right places can make a huge difference to the shape. My eyes are quite hooded, which is a notoriously difficult shape when it comes to eye make-up. Today I thought I'd show you some tips I've learned recently and how some basic neutral colours can brighten my eyes and make them look a bit bigger. It's amazing what a difference can be made by creating really subtle shadows and highlights!

All colours used in the make-up below are from the Urban Decay Naked Palette (the original one) but you would be able to get the same look with a similar neutral palette. As long as you stick to matte for creating shadows, and shimmer for highlighting then you're good to go.

How to make eyes look bigger

I start off by sweeping 'Sin' across my entire eyelid. This shimmery champagne shade brightens the eyes up really well on it's own. Next, I use the shade 'Naked' from the crease up to (but not on) the brow bone. This shade is a really light matte brown which creates a really subtle shadow. It's a tiny little step and makes a huge difference! Next, I use the medium matte brown shade 'Buck' in the crease. Blending this with 'Naked' makes it look like the shadow is getting darker and makes the crease look deeper. Oh, how technical!

If I'm saving time (and stress) by skipping liquid eye liner, I put 'Dark Horse' on my outer lash line and this makes my eye lashes look a bit thicker. Last but not least, I put some of the highlighting shade 'Virgin' on the inner corner of my eyes and in the tear duct, too. This is definitely the best trick for tired eyes and a step I'd never skip! Another tip for brightening eyes is to finish off with a nude eye liner on the water line - my favourite is Rimmel Scandal Eyes liner

Collar Top: Primark | Jeans: Topshop | Lace-up Shoes: Topshop | Bag: Zara

Hello! So today's outfit is either last week's and late, or next week's and early. Let's say it's early. Sorry for being a bit AWOL with the blogging this week. The weather's been awful for outfit pictures - I'll have to remember to make the most of the nice days in Autumn and especially Winter.

So if you haven't seen me mention almost every single day on twitter recently, I'm going on holiday tomorrow! Me, Andy and our friends Fraser and Ash are going to Lanzarote for a week and I am sooo excited! Shoop, shoop, shoop! I'm taking my camera along so I'll have a few holiday outfit posts when I'm back - and hopefully they won't be too out of place in amongst all the autumn outfits.

Now onto the outfit - I've been obsessed with my new Topshop shoes recently and when I saw this top in Primark, I thought it would go perfectly. I'm a bit wary with collars usually but I like the shape of this one on me, and l just love the sheer white fabric on the back. It just adds a little extra and helps to break up the dark colours in this outfit too. Can you believe the top was only £10?!

What have you all been up to this weekend?

Benefit World Famous Neutrals.

Tuesday, 23 September 2014

When it comes to eye shadow, I almost always wear neutral colours. I'm drawn to warm gold and bronze colours because they suit my skin tone best, so obviously, this eye shadow set from Benefit had my name written all over it. I actually had a voucher from an event I'd been to, and was so surprised that I'd be able to get 4 Benefit eye shadows and two cream shadows for just £23.50!

(Swatches L to R) It's Complicated | Call my Bluff |  Kiss Me, I'm Tipsy | Gilt-y Pleasure

So here's what eye shadows are in the set ..

Call My Bluff: This one is for the brow bone and inner corners. It's a cream shade with a golden shimmer that normally I wouldn't go for, but it goes really well with the other shades in the palette.
It's Complicated: A golden peach colour that reminds me of Mac 'All That Glitters', but better. It's a beautiful warm shade that brightens up the skin and looks gorgeous with coral blusher. I love this!
Kiss Me, I'm Tipsy: A dark brown with an ever-so-subtle glitter in it. I've been using this as a crease colour and also on the lash line. Another must-have for a neutral palette!
Gilt-y Pleasure: A light bronze/gold that's just the perfect day time colour for me. Looks lovely all over the lids on it's own with just the perfect amount of shimmer.

My Two Cents | Birthday Suit

The set also comes with two cream shadow pots ...

My Two Cents: A warm, peachy colour that works really well with 'it's complicated'. The colour is quite strong and works really well on it's own and as a base for bronze shades too.
Birthday Suit: A cooler toned brown. The colour pay off isn't great with this one and it's not much on it's own. It does looks lovely in the look below and makes the eye shadow last longer too.

One of the best things about the Benefit sets are these mini tutorials that come with it. I love both of these looks and I've been wearing the 'day time' one loads recently! SO (after this huge post) .. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a neutral palette with lots of potential for different looks. This is going to be a winner on holiday for me, perfect for carrying around and has all the shades I need for day and night. Love love love!

Have any of you tried this palette?

YouTube: Autumn Fashion Haul

Sunday, 21 September 2014

Hello! I have a new YouTube video up today! I ended up doing a few unplanned shopping trips this month, and I'm so happy with some of the things I've found. This haul includes things from H&M, Warehouse and Primark and they're all perfect autumn purchases. I actually forgot to mention that the top I'm wearing in the video is new too - that was a Primark one and it was only £10.

All the links to everything I've mentioned are on the YouTube page - hope you like it!

Have you found any bargains lately?

Topshop Lace Up Shoes.

Friday, 19 September 2014

Hello everyone. Happy weekend! Well I'd be much happier if I wasn't totally ill today - looks like I'll be spending my Friday wrapped in a duvet cocoon on the couch... all sympathy is welcomed.

Today I thought I'd show you my latest purchase that I'm SO excited about. You might have seen these on my instagram - admittedly, a couple of times over the last few weeks. I'd tried them on in Topshop Edinburgh last month and had been looking for them in the Glasgow stores every since without success. So the other night, I just took the plunge and ordered the on line. They're even prettier than I remembered. The perfect, deep berry colour for Autumn and they'll go with so many outfits from jeans to dresses. I can't wait to wear these - look out for them in an outfit post soon! :)

Have you picked up any autumn footwear recently?

Dark Autumn Lips.

Wednesday, 17 September 2014

Hello.. Happy Wednesday! Today I thought I'd show you my favourite lip combo at the moment. As soon as we hit September, one of the first things I wanted to do was dig out my favourite dark lipstick. Natural eyes with plum lips is by far my favourite make-up look in Autumn, and this Rimmel lipstick has been my favourite shade for a long, long time. The formula is really moisturising and the colour is exactly what I want it to be - a deep, plum shade that's not shockingly dark.

Recently, I was given the Bare Minerals lip  liner to try at an event, and it turned out to be the perfect match for my favourite lipstick. I've always used lip liner to line and colour in my lips too, because I find it really improves the staying power. So I've been lining my lips with the pencil, colouring inside and then layering the lipstick over the top. This sounds like a long process, but it totally pays off and makes it last so much longer. The lip liner underneath makes the colour much bolder, too.

What's your favourite dark lipstick? Have you tried any of these products?

Ticking all the Autumn Boxes.

Brushed Check Cardi: Warehouse* | Top: Primark (recent) | Jamie Jeans: Topshop
Bag: Zara | Watch: Marc Jacobs | Chunky Shoes: River Island

Hello lovelies! Hope you've had a good weekend. Remember that garden/jungle I spoke about a while ago? Well with a little bit of help from me and a lot of help from Andy and his very kind friends, it's finally been tamed! There's still a bit of work until it's perfect but it's such a relief to have most of it done. What a productive weekend!

I actually really like this outfit at the moment since it's got all my autumn favourites - tartan, dark red and mustard. Oh and not forgetting the dark lips too! I am absolutely in love with this tartan cardi from Warehouse, it's the softest fabric and feels so luxurious and cosy! I love how the tartan is quite subtle too. I've made a promise to myself to get good quality jumpers and cardigans this year, it makes all the difference and they last so much longer. I'll definitely be back to Warehouse for some more of their other jumpers and cardigans. Since the print is quite dark, I wore it with this red top to brighten it slightly. And I've been wearing these chunky shoes a lot recently - definitely the comfiest casual heels that I have just now!

What's your favourite Autumn trend/colour?

Wella SP Luxe Hair Oil.

Wella Hair Oil Review
Wella Hair Oil Review Luxe
Wella SP Luxe Oil c/o Ellen Conlin Hairdressers

So a few weeks ago, I went to a bloggers night at Ellen Conlin hairdressers in Glasgow. The salon was absolutely gorgeous inside and we had such a good night getting our hair done and learning about the products they use. We were lucky enough to get to get some of the products home to try too, and one thing I was so excited about was the Wella Professional Luxe Oil

For me, hair oil is a must-have styling product and I have tried a lot of different brands over the years. This first thing that struck me about this one was the scent - it's literally the nicest smelling hair product I've ever tried. Ever. It's a super clean, vanilla scent which really freshens up the hair if you're using it between washes. I've been using this oil on damp hair before blow-drying. The bottle has a pump which gives out just the right amount - I use one pump across the longer lengths of my hair and one across the layers as these are where it's driest. After blow-drying, the ends of my hair are so much smoother and less frizzy. I wash my hair every second day, so in between washes I use dry shampoo on the roots and pop some of this through the ends as well.

In terms of comparison, I definitely prefer this to the popular ones like Moroccan and Macadamia Oil. Firstly, because of the scent - if you try it, you'll understand! Secondly, it feels slightly lighter (without being less effective) and it doesn't build up at all, which is something I noticed a lot with Moroccan oil. Wella Luxe Oil comes in at £19.95, which is considerably less than the normal £30 region for products like this. I'd definitely recommend this if you're prone to dry ends but don't want any product build-up ... or of course, if you want your hair to smell like an absolute dream!

Have you tried this before? Do you have a favourite hair oil product?

Debenhams A/W Press Show.

Maisy Meow Blog

Hello! So if you saw my last post, you'll know I recently went to the Debenhams Press Show (if not - click here to see what I wore to it!). You'll also probably know that Autumn is my favourite season of the year, so I was so excited to see what Debenhams have in their department stores this season.

The  show was held at the gorgeous 5-star Blythswood Square Hotel, Glasgow. I loved how the show was set out this year - it had lots and lots of A/W outfits on mannequins lined up like a catwalk, surrounded by rails of clothes and accessories from their different brands. I actually preferred this to a normal fashion show, because I could really look at the detail on the outfits. I thought I'd show you some of my favourite outfits and accessories that I spotted. My favourites are the burnt orange jumper, the plum coloured coat and the tartan jumper from Henry Holland. What's your favourite?

This show turned into absolute heaven when I discovered the beauty room. We could try out new products like the Bare Minerals foundation, have a look at the A/W beauty collections or even get our nails done. We got a sneak peek at the Benefit advent calender too - I haven't had one of these before but I've heard so much about them! Have any of you had one? There was always some lovely gift ideas including the Origins Ginger SoufflĂ© set - who doesn't love ginger at Christmas?

Draped Jacket: H&M | White Cami: ASOS | Trousers: H&M (similar)
Cut Out Shoes: New Look | Necklace: Primark | Bag: Zara (sold out)

Hello .. I'm back! As expected, I was super busy last week but even still, it felt so weird not blogging. I'm up to date now so hopefully no more blog breaks will be required! One of the many activities of last week was the Debenhams A/W Press Show on Thursday. It was such a good night! I'm going to do a separate post on that later in the week, so today I just thought I'd show you what I wore...

I picked up this long line jacket/cardigan last week in H&M after looking at a few similar styles over the last few weeks. I really like the longer length of these and the material means they're perfect for transitional weather like this. I'm trying to cut back on the shopping until I'm back from holiday, so something like this means I can update what I already have to make it more autumn appropriate...if that makes sense! Anyway, I really like this monochrome outfit with a few A/W colours thrown in. This bag is still my favourite, and I couldn't help but bring out the dark lipstick for the first time this season. This one is 'Starry Eyed 128' by Rimmel and it's been my favourite for years.

Oh, I hope you like the background of these pics! I love how Autumnal it looks! :)

How would you style this? Have any of you been shopping for A/W yet?

Back on Monday.

Monday, 1 September 2014
Hello lovelies. So I haven't blogged since Wednesday ... my bad. I always plan one day a week to take all my blog pictures and plan posts for the next week, but I've been so busy that I didn't get that last week and now I'm all over the place. To top it all off, me and Andy are now trying to get our flat ready to go up for sale very soon. We've got a lot of painting to do, and worst of all, we've promised to tackle the jungle that is our 'garden'. So, yeah, I'm going to be busy (and cold). Rather than stress myself out even further, I'm going to take a few days off blogging to get some good posts behind me, and I'll be back with my best posts ever on Monday (promise).

Until then, here's a picture of a kitten. So cute.
