How to get a good nights sleep.

Friday, 9 January 2015

One of my many new years resolutions is to get more sleep at night. I've started going to bed later and later and it's now at the point where I'm very rarely sleeping before midnight. I blame twitter! Lack of sleep can have so many knock on effects on life - there's the obvious ones like feeling tired and grumpy, but it can also leave you with bad skin and cause you to eat more high-sugar foods to give you energy. Also do you ever wake up feeling completely different about something? Or do you ever feel anxious or nervous when you're tired? This is because your brain's thinking all night and processing your thoughts and emotions from that day, and if you don't give it enough time to do this or you interrupt it then this is what makes you feel uneasy. So basically, sleeping more can mean you have better skin, better diet and an overall better mood. It's a winner all round.

Recently I've been trying out some new things to help me wind down before bed. I love This Works Pillow Sprays - a quick spray before bed and the nice relaxing scent of lavender and camomile helps you drift off. I've also been using my wheat wrap that I got for Christmas last year. This is actually a long microwavable bean-cushion that gives a lavender and wheat scent when it's heated. It's the perfect size for putting around the back of your neck or just for cuddling into. The heat is really soothing and I love to sleep with it under my lower back which can get sore after a long day. Camomile and apple tea is a perfect replacement for a tea drinker in the evening - it's caffeine free and tastes so good. All I ever want to do after a shower is lie down, so it makes total sense to have a hot shower to tire me out before bed. If you're lucky enough to have a bath, the Twilight bath bomb is always a good one but if not, I love to use something calming like the Body Shop Vanilla Brulee shower gel

Do any of you have any tips on how to get a better sleep?

  2. Oh what a great post! I love the camomile and honey tea, but will keep an eye out for the spiced apple one! The wheat wrap also sounds like such a good idea, will have to look into it!

  4. I really need to get back in to a decent sleep routine, but getting in from work at 11pm really knocks me out of sync! I'm definitely going to look in to a wheat wrap, it sounds so comforting. I used to have a teddy that would go in the microwave and I'm guessing it's a similar concept! x

    1. I know the feeling, I work shifts so I get up at a different time every day and it can be difficult to get into a routine. Yeah I have a teddy like it too (a wee penguin haha) , but prefer the wrap because you can put it round your neck and on your back etc xx

  10. that pillow spray has been on my wishlist for long enough; i'm a bugger for having my phone on when I go to bed, I can lay for hours just browsing pinterest and I'd love to use something which really relaxes me enough for me to go to sleep within 10 mins of my head hitting in the pillow!

    1. I'm the same with my phone, it's so tempting to go on it when you're struggling to sleep but I read somewhere that it actually keeps you awake for longer! The pillow spray really is a good one to try :) x

  11. "The price, however, will be a further tightening of adidas factory outlet credit conditions for households and businesses and a deeper downturn in the real economy in 2015," he said. Russia's central bank has tried unsuccessfully to stabilise the currency, adidas store buying roubles in the markets. It has spent more than $70bn (£44.7bn) supporting the rouble since the start of the year. When Russia's Central Bank raised its base rate by one adidas originals online percentage point last week, it was like a doctor giving a seriously ill patient a headache tablet.
