Shared Baby & Toddler Bedroom

Wednesday, 28 August 2019
Recently we redecorated the nursery into a shared bedroom for both Oliver (2) and Marcus 7 months). I've uploaded a full tour of the shared nursery here, but I also wanted to share some pics on my blog too for those of you that don't watch youtube.

I've absolutely loved decorating this room and it's probably my favourite room in the house at the moment. I went for a colour palette of steel blues, rusty orange, mustard yellow and pinky tones and my main inspiration came from  months and months of trawling through pinterest. You can have a look at some of my inspiration on this pinterest board

The first thing we had to decide was the wall colour. I went for Valspar April Rain on the wall behind  the bed, and 'Statue of Liberty' on the other walls just to give a bit of contrast. April skies was my favourite choice but I felt the colour might darken the room to much, so the lighter shade on the bigger walls really helped to counteract that.

We've always had a reading corner in the nursery and I wanted to keep this in the new room too. It's all centred around this beautiful blue boho armchair that we've had for years but since I wanted to avoid having the two similar colours together, I decided to section off part of the room as the reading corner. I've saw quite a lot of this idea recently on pinterest and I love how effective it is. We sectioned the corner off with frog tape and it was painted white, and I added some extra detail with these black polka dot wall decals. They were so simple to apply and easy to remove if I made a mistake and, seriously, I can't believe how much of a difference they made!

I loved that with this room, I could be really open to colour. I'm usually quite wary of bright colours but in the nursery, I knew I could just go for it and I had so much fun picking out the accessories. I obviously have a consistent style because it turns out a lot of the accessories from Oliver's old room actually fit well in the new room too. This cot mobile was from Oliver's nursery and it works perfectly in the new room. Marcus isn't actually sleeping in here yet, so at the moment I've just dressed his cot with this beautiful big throw from George at Asda and cushions from TK Maxx and Matalan.

My youtube video showing the room was actually sponsored by desenio (this post is not) and I picked some gorgeous prints from their site. There's a bit of a subtle jungle theme going through this room, with lots of little giraffes, lions and other animals dotted around the room. I absolutely love the giraffe prints and so does Oliver.

One of my favourite pieces in the room is the train track rug. Can you believe this was one of the last things I got for the room? It looks like it was *made* to fit the colour scheme perfectly. It's a proper playmat and since Oliver is car/train/bus mad, he loves taking all his toys around the track.

The finishing touches for the room were kindly gifted to us by The Modern Nursery. We chose the Snuz house shelves, the beautiful pom pom cushion and the bedding set by Ferm Living. These really finished the room perfectly and everything came together better than I could have imagined.

The storage in this room is minimal, as we've turned a small storage cupboard into the boys' own walk in wardrobe. This space was previously a dumping ground for excess toys and, well, mess. We wanted to have as much space as possible in the room for the boys to play as they grow older so we took the bulky double drawers from the room and made the most of the space we had elsewhere. It turned out perfectly - you'll need to head on to youtube to see the finished result of the wardrobe! :)

And that's it! What do you think?
